This course provides general guidance for persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) and workers on manual handling tasks.

According to Safe Work Australia, these tasks become hazardous when they involve:

    • Repetitive or sustained force
    • High or sudden force
    • Awkward postures or movements
    • Exposure to vibration
    • Handling of live people or animals
    • Loads that are unstable or difficult to grasp

These hazards can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which are common injuries in workplaces.

Employers must prioritise reducing the risks associated with hazardous manual handling tasks by assessing and controlling hazards, providing the right tools and training, and promoting safe work practices.
